Karen McSwain is a patent agent at Shay Glenn LLP where she focuses on patent prosecution and drafting, and IP due diligence investigations including freedom-to-operate analyses. Karen has patent experience with a wide variety of technologies including medical devices, biotechnology, materials, consumer electronics, chemical analytics, three-dimensional printers, optical and laser systems, machine learning, and sensor technologies.
Prior to joining Shay Glenn LLP, Karen worked at a start-up company developing additive manufacturing systems. Prior to that, Karen was a patent agent at Downey Brand LLP and Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP. Before entering the legal profession, Karen worked at Brooks Automation, Applied Materials and La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company.
Karen received her M.S. in Chemistry from University of California, San Diego and her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
